the week in stitches

This week we are in full swing in the moshi atelier getting ready and ship shape for our trip to Berlin. There are lists to tick off, outfits for the moshi elves to sort out, and loads of general panicking and last minute sorting.

As a result of all the prevarication involved in deciding what to sew for the event, there are some one-offs that are in the shop this week that were part of the process with regards to how i wanted the girls to look. Their final outfits are now taking shape and will be a surprise for later.

Shop will be updated this evening 6pm UK time.

Currently working on designs for the weekend. As I am off to Berlin at the end of the month, I have plans for a mini update at the weekend and then it will be all elves to the pumps packing and deciding what to wear for our trip.

Anthropologie Inspiration

I love the clothes in Anthropologie and their style in general. I suppose their style is closest to my own aesthetic both in my home and my clothes. I fell in love with them from afar years ago and am so glad you can now go to Anthropologie in London. What a treat.

These trousers were such a beautiful colour and style that I had to make a mini version.

Moshi-moshi GIve-away

Using random.org me and the moshi elves are planning a little giveaway of this outfit that Lola is wearing. If you are interested in taking part in the draw then please add a comment at the end of this post giving us your Flickr ID, so that I can contact you directly when the draw closes. I will also announce the winner here so you can check at the end.

I will allocate a number to each comment, ie. First comment will be No.1 and so on, and then get Random.Org to select the winner.

Draw will take place Friday 15th June 2012 at 5pm.

Fabric flower tutorial

These little flowers are great for using up scraps of fabric and can be used in lots of creative ways. Make brooches, hairpins or use to embellish bags or purses.

Cut out circles of fabric, these are about 3 cm discs but you can make them bigger too. I am going to attempt some really tiny ones soon, just to see how small they can be made.

Fold a disc in half and then in half again to make a little fan, stitch through the pointy end to secure. Don't cast off.

Stitch each fan to the centre of a disc of fabric and continue adding petals in this way. Use a couple of tiny stitches to secure each petal.

Carry on adding petals until it has reached the desired level of fluffyness for your taste.

You now need to get some pretty seed beads for the centre of the flower and stitch in as many as you want to create a nice little bunch. I have used a mixture of shapes and colours to tone with the pale pink petals.
Make lots on a wet afternoon, and get prettifying all sorts of craft projects. Hope you enjoy!

Wednesday morning blues...

We had a mega busy weekend, with family staying with us for the extended bank holiday weekend to celebrate the Jubilee of Old Queenie. Us being not particularly royally inclined just had a bit of a rest and used it as an excuse to drink some nice sparkly wine with friends and family and that was all lovely.

I woke up this morning ready to go to work and the day started very well, with tops that had been cut out the night before getting stitched together and I was feeling all warm and happy at the lovely colour combinations and having some fun with the embroidery when Bertha decided to start to protest. She made some unhealthy noises and seemed to be a bit stiff in her metal joints and then she kept missing stitched and snarling up the thread. So she has gone off to get some TLC at the hospital for tired and overworked mechanical friends.

What this means is that I don't think i will be able to do an update this weekend, sorry! I do hope that she gets fixed soon...

Sewing basket today

Making cap sleeve blouses and sewing ties on to my shirts today. Most of the hand stitching I did while watching Miss Marple. Sad but true, I am addicted to Agatha Christie.
